7 Little Known Facts About Cellulite

Cellulite is a condition for which cures are commonly sought. The lumpy, rippled skin which typically appears in the thighs and buttocks area known as cellulite is typically associated with a weight problem; however an individual need not be overweight to have cellulite. The condition is caused by water retention and circulatory problems that may resulted from a variety of factors including hormones.

A weakening of the connective tissue located just beneath the skin can also result in cellulite. Although cellulite has been known to occur in men, it is much more typical in women.

Millions of dollars are spent each year on cellulite treatment creams and other types of products to eradicate cellulite, a condition that is considered to be unattractive and believed by many women to be a rare condition. In truth, most women have cellulite and it actually begins to form just after puberty hits. The degree of cellulite varies, but more than 90 percent of all women have it to some degree.

So, if all women have it, is there anything you can do about it? Many people fail to do anything about their cellulite because they believe there is either nothing they can do about it or that it’s simply fat. The truth is that it isn’t fat that there are actually number of steps that women can take to prevent and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The most important step women who are concerned about cellulite can take to reduce and prevent its appearance, is to eat a healthy, well balanced diet that is low in fat. Women who do this from an early age, and maintain such a diet, are shown to have far less problems with cellulite than women who do not. Exercise helps to keep the body toned and promotes good circulation, another key step in fighting cellulite.

Finally, the benefits of drinking plenty of water have been touted for many health conditions and cellulite is no different. The main purpose of cellulite is to wash away toxins within your body which can help to increase circulation, thus preventing and reducing cellulite.

It has been suggested the genetics as well as the surge of hormones that many women face, may also be among the causes for cellulite development. While there is nothing you can do about your genetics, and little you can do about your hormones, fighting cellulite by living a healthy lifestyle has been shown to produce amazing results.

Studies also indicate that cutting down or quitting smoking altogether can also provide an improvement in the appearance of cellulite. This is mainly due to the fact that smoking causes damage to small blood vessels, which increases the risk for cellulite.

It’s important to keep in mind that while many of the cellulite products on the market today are effective, they can only provide optimal results when combined with a healthy diet and exercise regimen. A gentle skin massage in the areas affected by cellulite can also be beneficial in restoring circulation and reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Thanks Eleinys! That's fab. I remember seeing a documentary on cellulite a long time ago. From what I recall cellulite is irreversible. It is based on your fat molecules and structure.

cellulite sucks! i'm really thin, but i have a lot of it. it runs in my family. i've pretty much given up on trying to get rid of it, but i find that working out and a fake tan do wonders in reducing the appearance. oh- i find that rubbing on body oil(try palmers)helps the light reflect off of your skin and it looks better when you are in shorts or a bathing suit!

Great Post. I have it and I hate it. I had it when I weighed 100 pounds (nope, do not weigh anything near that anymore)........What a great day if they ever found a cure for it.

Thanks very nice. Actually I think people waste their money on cellulite creams. You will get the same results no matter what lotion or oil you use while doing a massage in the areas to create and stimulate circulation. I've seen this myself. I actually wrote a review on the Avon Cellulite cream...but I'm not downing this cream, I'm downing all of them.

Keep the blood circulation and stimulate the area several times a week for several minutes and you will start to see improvement...you can do this in the shower or any other time...heck have hubby or SO give you massages 3-4 times a week...and see the results for yourself.

EDIT: oh and you will notice almost every cream says to massage the cream in for several minutes....hmmmm can you guess why? Yep it's works without the cream too.

I have had it for years even I am skinny as before. I've been using Biotherm Celllulite gel for about 3 months but I still cannot get rid of the creases on my buttocks.

I have it on my upper thighs since I've had kids. I don't even worry about it though because from what I can tell, it's only noticeable if my shorts/skirt are short enough, and my legs are crossed while sitting down. Now, why can't I feel that way about my excess stomach baggage that doesn't go away?!

In some celebrity mag, they had pictures of stars who have cellulite and the magazine was implying that it was some sort of sin. Here are these women who workout with trainers, have their meals cooked for them or delivered to their door and they still have to deal with it. It just sort of pissed me off that the magazine was acting like it was so horrid of them to be seen in public in a bathing suit or short skirt because of it. Dumb!

Thnx

Yep my very way to skinny IMO, sister-in-law (size 0) has cellulite...heck and she's always thinking she wants to loose weight....she just needs to tone up, IMO....maybe the cellulite bugs her and she thinks she needs to lose weight.

Thanks for all the posts. I know for a fact that cellulite and stretch marks run in the family. My mom is tummy heavy, but she has very little cellulite and strechmarks. I am five feet and i weight about 140 pounds and I no noticable cellulite or strechmarks. So i know that weight has nothing to do with it. If you want to know if you are bound to get, take a look at your family memebers.

I think heredity has a huge part. My best friend drastically diminished the look of hers with strength training and a spray on tan:)

I find that drinking plenty of water not only makes your face brighter and tighter, but the rest of your skin as well.

Yes, that's a misconception people have. I have 2 g/fs who are very thin, not one shred of fat on them and they have cellulite. Then you see women with bubble butts, etc, and it's a smooth landscape. I think cardio work with weight resistance may help, but who knows...? It does seem to be something you just get, or you don't, as if it's purely genetic.
