I've been using Avon's Anew 10% 2-step peel and so far it's been doing great. I'm wondering though, why people are using it in their cleansers, toners, and then also use a 30% peel during the same day too. Please help me understand what are the benefits to doing this so I'll know whether I need to add this as well. I would love to know what are the benefits to adding glycolic acid to cleansers, toners, etc...... and then why use so much in a peel? I would think it would be taking off so many layers and that wouldn't be beneficial but would be doing more harm than good. I know that's not the case so if someone could explain this process it would be great, thanks!

I think it helps to bring the skin to the proper ph level. I use a 5% toner before a peel.

If the Avon is working great for you I wouldn't worry about anything else.

I guess it depends on how aggressively you want/need to exfoliate. Products like Retin-A exfoliate much more aggressively than over-the-counter glycolic acid treatments with beautiful results (beautiful, that is, once you desensitize your skin and get past the horrid looking and painful red, irritated, peeling phase). Some people only need a little glycolic acid to get the results they want, others need more.

Hissy said it just right... Everyone's skin is different. I went in for professional Glycolic Acid Peels and they were too intense for my skin at the time, but I use a 20% GA face wash every day and it is perfect for me.

I will probably try the GA peels again one day, but not for a while...

How would one determine this? And how does PH/"bioavailability" affect the skin?

if you have perfectly normal skin, would glycolic acid be good for your skin? i mean in a small amount. if so what would you recommend?? :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

glycolic acid is a exfoliant and a rather aggressive one at that. it peels off the outer skin layer. if your skin is normal and you're not having issues, ie acne, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, rough patches, etc. then i would pass on this one. jmho~
